HOMEMADE PART 2

I've decided to make my own cashew flour, cashew butter, walnut flour, and walnut butter. We took a trip to Georgetown market to buy organic raw cashews and almonds. (The jar in the background is full of baked pecans. I mixed them with honey, cinnamon, and ghee then baked at 350 for about 15 minutes. Such a delicious snack.) On a side note, I couldn't have done all of this with out the help of my husband. Thank you babe!We bought 3.5. lbs of cashews and 2.5 lbs of walnuts. They were around $4.19 per pound.

The final product. For the cashew and walnut flour I just but the nuts in a food processor until they are finely grounded. For the cashew butter I boiled the nuts until they floated, roasted them in the oven for about 2 hours, put in the food processor, added coconut oil and sea salt. For the walnut butter, I roasted them in the oven for about an hour, put in the food processor, added olive oil, and kosher salt. All of these have to be refrigerated and can last up to 6 months.
My flours!

In a previous post I mentioned that I wanted to have a chemical free house so today I made my own cleaning products. Here is the link that had all of the formulas, http://www.eartheasy.com/live_nontoxic_solutions.htm.

  2. I love that you make your own flours & butters. I hadn't even thought to try making my own flour.

My son still has sensory issues that center around his clothing so he will only wear plain cotton t-shirts and boxers to bed but I can't wait until I can buy him cute jammies again.
